2nd Annual Chili Cook-off Promises Day of Food, Music, Fun
With 30 teams set to compete for $2,500 in prize money and activities for the whole family, the 2nd annual Greater Travelers Rest Chamber of Commerce Chili Cook-off and Vendor Fair promises a day filled with food, music and fun.
In addition to free samplings of chili from professional teams and aspiring amateurs alike, the event, taking place Saturday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. at the site of the former Travelers Rest High School, will feature live music from Green Vegas and Jacob Johnson, an expansive “Kids Zone” with free inflatables and games, food vendors and a dunk tank as well as hot dog eating, jalapeno pepper eating, watermelon seed spitting and pie eating contests.
More than 30 vendors have signed up to take part in the day's activities, and raffles – with prizes including a river cabin vacation, a free day at Glade Spa and a $150 Sherwin Williams gift certificate – will be held throughout the day.
New this year, the Travelers Rest Fire Department will be on site with their safety house, the Travelers Rest Lions Club will offer free vision screening and Urgent Care – Cherrydale will offer free blood pressure screenings. The Blood Mobile will also be at the event, collecting much-needed blood donations.
Major sponsors include T&S Brass, the city of Travelers Rest, One Main Financial, North Greenville Hospital, TD Bank and Loftis Printing.
The festival grounds are located at 115 Wilhelm Winter Street in Travelers Rest. Parking and admission are free.
